How do I know if I should go to the psychologist?
Many people, the first time they come, have many doubts before going to therapy, they usually say phrases like “I don’t know if mine is a psychologist”, “maybe I shouldn’t be here”, “I don’t think I need a psychologist”. because I’m not crazy”…Etc.
The truth is that going to a psychologist is not crazy. A person should attend clinical sessions when they perceive that they cannot live their lives normally, whether due to fear, anxiety, sadness, depression, jealousy, relationship problems, poor communication, poor social skills, difficulty in learning, lack of objectives. and values, stagnation of grief, low self-esteem, low motivation, etc.
It is not so important what the real situation that the person is experiencing is, but rather how he interprets it, what he thinks, feels and does in relation to it. No one sees it as strange that someone goes to the doctor if they sprain, it is easy to sense that that person suffers if it is not treated in time. However, it is still difficult for us to assimilate that another person can suffer as much or more than someone who has a sprain due to pain that is not seen, that is not perceived visually.
It is necessary to normalize the fact of going to the psychologist to break with the labels of “crazy”, “moronic”, “weak-minded” and to be able to understand that a psychologist will always help us overcome the obstacles that we notice in our daily routine through guidelines. and therapeutic techniques. We can compare the figure of the psychologist to that of a catalyst that helps us make the necessary change to feel good about ourselves.
